ADULT: Wingspan 20-22 mm.  A smart moth with a greyish-brown forewing that has a white kidney mark and oval and a similarly7 coloured patch in the trailing corner. This patch can be variable and in the form albilinea it can be reduced to simple white edging.  LARVA: Light green with a darker stripe running along the back and the odd black spots throughout. CHRYSALIS: The pupa is found in the winter months inside a cocoon below ground. BEHAVIOUR: A day flying moth easily kicked up from amongst grass, can be in decent numbers. HABITAT: Light woodland, grassy heathland and moorland. FLIGHT PERIOD: Late May to July. STATUS: Resident and common throughout.
